Philosophy and Approach
Jennifer's Approach to Mediation
Guided by her underlying philosophy that 'there is always a solution', Jennifer’s approach to mediation is deliberate and goals focused. She does not act as a judge, advocate, or therapist. Instead, she serves as a skilled neutral guide, helping parties understand the legal landscape, identify shared interests, troubleshoot problems and make informed decisions in a controlled, respectful setting.
Key principles that define her work:
-
Child and family-centered decisions: Prioritizing what truly matters without
performative rhetoric. -
Process over pressure: Focusing on a thoughtful, organized approach that
leads to lasting results. -
Informed Decisions: Supporting interest-based analysis within a legal framework to support confident, well-
informed decision-making. -
Long-term stability: Crafting solutions that endure, rather than chasing short-
term wins.
Jennifer is particularly effective in high conflict matters, where communication has been challenged by behavioral and psychological barriers in various ways. Her skillset and background allow her to anticipate pressure points and help create understanding between the parties, keeping negotiations productive and focused.
Educator and Thought Leader
In addition to her private mediation practice, Jennifer serves as a Lecturer at USC Gould School of Law, where she designed and teaches the curriculum for the Divorce and Family Mediation course. In the classroom, she trains current and future lawyers to approach conflict with creativity, emphasizing problem-solving, ethics, and the human impact of every decision.
Jennifer understands that the way a conflict is framed at the outset often influences its outcome. Drawing on this philosophy and understanding, Jennifer was one of the key policy architects in developing Senate Bill 1427, which amended the California Family Code and introduced a new joint petition process in California family law.
